Bought a Used Car With One Key? Do This Today
Used car came with one key? Duplicate it now — why one-key cars are a time bomb and what replacement costs later.
Used cars come with one key because the previous owner lost the others — and the dealer’s replacement quote made peace with one. The day you lose that key too, the cheap option disappears.
Why now is cheaper
With a working key we duplicate in minutes: read it, cut it, program it. With zero keys we must cut from the VIN, which needs documents, a code lookup and on-car programming — typically 50-100% more, plus whatever the day already cost you.
Two more one-key facts
First, the missing second key may still exist — in a drawer of the previous owner. That is why we also void lost keys during any programming visit. Second, worn single keys damage ignition cylinders; a fresh spare tells you whether the key or the lock was the problem.
